Software Screen Guide

Check HW3 vs HW4
From Inside the Car

If you have access to the vehicle's touchscreen, its computer label is the most reliable way to identify the installed hardware.

1

Software Tab (Easiest Method)

The Software tab shows the computer type directly. This is the quickest and most reliable in-car method.

How to Access:

  1. Tap the car icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen
  2. Tap Software in the menu
  3. Look for the Computer field
HW3: Hardware 3
HW3 software screen showing Full Self-Driving Computer
Shows 'Full Self-Driving Computer'
May also show 'FSD Computer'
This is Hardware 3 (HW3)
HW4: Hardware 4
HW4 software screen showing AI4 Computer
Shows 'AI4 Computer'
May also show 'Hardware 4'
This is Hardware 4 (HW4)

Most reliable: Read the computer label from the specific vehicle. Menu wording can vary by model and software version, so also check Additional Vehicle Information when available.

2

Additional Vehicle Information

The "Additional Vehicle Information" screen provides detailed hardware specs, including the Autopilot computer version.

How to Access:

  1. Tap the car icon in the bottom-left corner
  2. Tap Software
  3. Tap Additional Vehicle Information
  4. Look for the Autopilot Computer field
HW3: Hardware 3
HW3 additional vehicle information screen
Autopilot Computer field shows Hardware 3
This confirms HW3 (Hardware 3)
HW4: Hardware 4
HW4 additional vehicle information screen
Autopilot Computer field shows Hardware 4
This confirms HW4 (Hardware 4)
💡

Documentation tip: Photograph the hardware label during a test drive or inspection so you have a record of exactly what that vehicle's screen showed.
